Poetry
My Grandson Cody
by Nancye Ricketts
September 26, 1999
Only an infant some would say
Nine pounds and one ounce
He never saw the light of day
Remember life is for the living
Since Cody died.
But, life doesn't go on as before
Something has changed
Grandparents, ready to hold one more
And the arms are empty
Since Cody died.
The people came and they called
Encouraging words, a prayer
Enough food for all
Flowers and just being there
Since Cody died.
A tiny casket and teddy bears
A poem, a song and tears
Remember that Jesus cares
Extra hugs for the living
Since Cody died.
But is Cody really dead?
Is he gone forever?
Will nothing more be said?
Is this all there is?
Since Cody died.
This life - only a little piece
In the tapestry of eternity
This is not all there is
And I've one more reason to go
Since Cody died - but in Heaven he lives.
